Goedendag, ik ben Jeff. Don’t try to pronounce the first part of that – you’ll just hurt yourself. It’s how Amsterdammers say hello, although just as often you’ll hear “hello”. This canal-laden capital is multi-lingual to its core, with some 177 nationalities represented. And although you’ll easily get by here with speaking English, the city does a great job of holding onto its Dutchness as well.

I first came here in 2003, then again in ’08 and soon after stuck around for good. It’s an endlessly interesting and charming place.

What appeals most is that the city offers you anything you want. Want to experience the finest in culture and art? Or maybe you want to go on a 48-hour clubbing bender, just chill out in any one of the beautiful parks, ride a bike (and you will ride a bike), sweat it all out in a sauna (don't be shy - they're co-ed), or do some power-shopping. It's all entirely possible here, and I plan to give you some tips on the best and most interesting Amsterdam has to offer.

Jeff is not only an Amsterdamer through and through; he's also a dab hand at blog writing. You can check out his work at http://papaculture.com/
