Suk 11
Posted by potterix
Suk 11 is a charming and quirky backpacker guesthouse in downtown Bangkok, among all the posh hotels. All wooden and higgledy piggledy, you walk along a series of plankways to get to your room. About 700 baht for an air-conditioned double room with balcony and simple breakfast.
Sukhimvit Road, Soi 11. Two minutes from Nana skytrain station.

Bella Bella guesthouse

Cheap, clean, hotel located close to backpacker amenities. I paid 175 baht for a single fan room - pretty reasonable for the Khao San Road area of Bangkok. To say the room was spartan would be an overstatement, but it and the shared bathrooms were clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay on a budget.

It's slightly away from Khao San Road so a bit quieter than some of the other hotels but still conveniently close to the action.

The Atlanta Hotel

The Atlanta is a fantastic budget hotel with a swimming pool, great restaurant and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. It has many claims to fame including having had Louis Armstrong and the king of Thailand playing jazz there together. We'd happily go back there tomorrow.

Sugar Guesthouse

The cheapest place I found to stay (and trust me, I looked). It's 80 baht a night for a bed in a very dark and noisy dorm. The staff are friendly and offer the best prices on tours and transport. Just watch out for the low ceiling fans. I'm 6'3'' and almost lost a digit on two occasions.
Th. Chakraphong (near The Connection Travellers and over the road from the Airport Shuttle Bus Stop)

New Siam II

This is a great guesthouse, only a few minutes walk from the bustle of Khao San Road, but in a very quiet street. It has a lovely pool, with a very mellow cafe next to it, and really friendly and helpful staff. About 800 baht a night for a double, air-conditioned room.
Prah Athit Road, near the Khao San Road
