Happy wanderer Richard Elliot has swapped the culinary delights of New York for the buzz of Bangkok as he makes his way across the globe. Here's his latest dispatch from the chaos of the Khao San Road. Or rather one certain nightclub ...

On my first night in Bangkok I headed to the Flix/Slim nightclub. The Thais love a great party and I'm yet to have a bad night out in Bangkok!

Away from the go-go bars and backpacker hang-outs of Khao San Road, Bangkok has some amazing clubs. Affluent young Thais party hard with an increasing number of expats and tourists.

I went on a Tuesday night, which is Model's Night. The club gives free drink vouchers to actors/models to draw in the ultra glamorous and attract the crowds. Luckily for me, one of my old uni friends is a registered model so I was able to get free drinks all night too!

Flix/Slim has three rooms, each playing different types of music through until 2am. A live band, invariably rocky, packs out one room. The other two rooms have live DJs; one playing hip-hop and the other house/dance.

You can buy drinks at the bar, but if there is a group of you, the Thai way is to ask for a table and order a bottle of whiskey or vodka and some mixers. If you don't finish your bottle, you'll be given a voucher. The next time you visit the club you'll be able to finish the whiskey, only paying for any additional mixers you order.

It's part of the experience to chat, dance, flirt and generally have a good time with your neighbouring tables. By their nature the Thais are a very welcoming and friendly people, so have some fun!

The clubs are full most nights of the week, being busier at the weekend. The craziest time of all is Songkran when you need to go armed with a water pistol and expecting to get soaked to the skin!

Flix/Slim can be found at Royal City Avenue, Bangkok. You'll need to take a taxi. Every cab driver in the city will recognise the magic three letters RCA.
