Every week a reader gets a chance to put a travel question to the Been there community. Check out how this works
We are driving to the Pyrenees for a week in August with our sons aged five and nine, before moving on to San Sebastian the following week.
I am looking for a campsite in the mountains (either in France or Spain, but towards the Atlantic side) with shady pitches, good facilities for children (at least a lake or swimming pool) and good access to adventurous family activities - rafting, pony trekking etc. Any suggestions would be very welcome.Russel
Check out
Le Monloo. Although I have never been to this particular campsite it looks pretty ok from the website. It's in Bagneres de Bigorre which is a very nice place and there are plenty of things to do in that area both for kids and adults.
My advice is that if you want to go there, you should book a space for your tent asap as like many places in southern Europe, August can be quite packed.
ThomasWe've stayed at
El Jabali Blanco a couple of times with our kids. It's small, friendly and relatively cheap but with a kids playground and a pool. Best of all it's close to the Ordesa National Park which has just amazing scenery. There's canoeing and rafting on the river, horse riding nearby and a beautiful walk in Ordesa along the valley floor, starting from Torla.
Kit CreeI would recommend somewhere like Bielsa which is deep in the Pyrennes and close to the French border. Very quiet area, beautiful scenery, good local restaurants and some facilities for summer tourists even though it tends towards a Winter resort area. Good luck!
