The knowledge: camping in Snowdonia

Fairy Glen, Snowdonia

My boyfriend and I are planning our first trip to Wales in July to visit Snowdon. Can anyone recommend any good campsites around this area? Our preferance is for excellent views and clean facilities and we
would like somewhere rural - more farmers field than holiday park.

My tip for camping near Snowdon is to stay at the Forest Holidays site at Beddgelert.
I stayed here last August and enjoyed it for the mountain views, and I pitched next to a fast flowing river which was idyllic. It has very modern and clean shower and toilet blocks, good washing up facilities and laundry room, a small shop, and up to date info about local hiking. Despite it being a site which allows caravans, it is well designed as the caravans are mainly concealed in a woodland setting. You can walk into Beddgelert from the campsite where there are several good places to eat.

Has to be Llyn Gwynant campsite at the base of Snowdon, a couple of miles up the road from Beddgelert. Been going there for years, back when it was a farmer's field - but they have added a shower and toilet block in last few years. Stunning views and you can have a camp fire.

Try the campsite at Bontddu. Basic but superb views of the North face of Cader Idris.

I would highly recommend Llyn Gwynant Campsite just south of Snowdon (near Beddgelert). Beautiful location by the lake, and only a short walk to the usual Snowdon starting point. Nice and quiet and clean, and they sell wood for camp fires.
