
Whether he got the photo by leaning out a window at an opportune moment or by skulking around on a balcony for several hours we don't know, but Alistair McIntosh takes out this month's prize with his winning image of a banana seller in Hoi An market, Vietnam.
Guardian picture researcher Karin Andreasson commented: "We are so used to seeing photographs of far flung places that very few catch your eye, but sometimes all that's needed for a subject to feel fresh is for the photographer to shoot from a different angle. The composition in this picture is bold and fun, a really nice play with the shapes of the hat and bowl and the fingers and the bananas. Part of me wishes the hat was another colour to contrast with the hands - but you can't have everything."
