The Beehive, Rome
Posted by bearandlion
After staying in a fabulous place in Florence (see our other tip about Il Ghiro) we thought it couldn't get any better. How wrong we were. The Beehive is extraordinary. A beautiful, warm, clean, friendly hostel with free internet and the most incredible vegetarian cafe downstairs (you can also eat at the cafe if you are not a guest). We can't believe our luck and we are wishing we could stay in a place like this everywhere we go. By far, the best hostel possible. The term "hostel" doesn't remotely do it justice. It's home, in Rome.

The Moorings, Looe. Cornwall
Posted by jenny2009
The Moorings is a B&B in a fantastic position in the pretty medieval seaside town of Looe. My first dread was that it would be chintzy and uncomfortable in a B&B, but I’m delighted to say I was dead wrong. The showers were powerful, the rooms were airy and relaxing, the view was beautiful and I spent hours watching the children crabbing while reading a book out on the balcony. Add to that that it is five minutes pleasant walk to the sea past a working fish harbour! It was a really relaxing, friendly and family orientated holiday.
There is a website www.themooringslooe.com, and Looe has a train station

Good Value Hostel, Dublin
Posted by katknapper
I found the write-ups here helpful before I visited Dublin for my recent outing - a group of us went over for a weekend a few weeks ago. We were aware rooms could be pricey, but we found a great hostel about a mile from the city called Morehampton House. It's a massive Georgian and not much of a walk to the centre, but most of all it's great value. We only paid 20 per night for each person, so I wanted to let those who want budget rooms to know about it. Its clean and friendly.

Hotel24seven, Bristol

It's the best idea I've seen in ages. A fully automated, no-nonsense hotel on the outskirts of the city. I mean 10 minutes' walk away. The single rooms cost just £29 per night but are very clean and tidy. Free broadband helps too.

La Taqueria, San Francisco
Posted by johnsannaee
In the heart of San Francisco's vibrant Mexican district, the Mission, simply named La Taqueria is a bastion of authenticity in an increasingly yuppified area that remains popular because of its sheer quality and value for money. In traditional, homely surroundings you can order some of the finest Mexican food on offer in the Bay Area, either to eat in or take out. No airs and graces, just good quality food in generous portions and at low prices. And what's more, the guacamole is to die for.
2889 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110. Nearest BART: 24th & Mission Station.

Inexpensive Eats, Tokyo
Posted by LesP
On your own in Tokyo? Search out large office blocks, daytime or night time, there's usually a food court either at ground or upper level. Japan can be expensive and this is an easy and inexpensive way to eat out alone. Don't worry about the language, there are the plastic plates to point out.

La Bombilla, Goruna, Galicia
Posted by gantius
Best place in Coruña for tapas. If you go to Coruña, you can't miss it. Cheap, 1€-1 tapa, 1€-1 beer
By the way, there is no seating, just take the tapas and the beer and have them outside.

Thermal lagoon with better views than the Blue Lagoon near Reyjavik (you look over the town and towards Lake Myvatn) and half the price. Also steam baths etc.

Cicerones de Buenos Aires
Posted by Sissi
This service allows curious travelers to be paired up with local residents who want to share the hidden attractions and treasures within Buenos Aires. Each tour can be catered towards your particular interests, perhaps museums, coffee shops or arts performances, and the tours are available in a number of languages. This is a brilliant way of getting to know the capital through the eyes of someone who lives and breathes the city, cannot recommend it enough.

Filene's Basement
Posted by ciarap
A Boston institution, where you can pick up a designer bargain in an oversized jumble sale. Filene came up with the Automatic Mark Down System, whereby price tags are marked with the date, and the longer an item goes unsold, the more the price is marked down by up to 75%. Simple, and hence sometimes the shopping frenzy of people scrapping over clothes, hiding items to secure a bigger markdown and getting changed in the aisles. This branch of Filene's Basement is closed for two years from September 2007, but the chain also has stores in Columbus, Paramus, Peabody and more. See www.filenesbasement.com for more information.
Downtown Crossing, corner of Summer and Washington.
