The Watering Hole, CornwallPosted by
taviman We discovered the Watering Hole pub on Perranporth beach in Cornwall almost 20 years ago when on holiday with our young children. It is slap bang on the soft golden sand of one of the best surfing beaches in the UK. You can kick off your shoes and stroll barefoot into the bar where you'll get a warm Cornish welcome, good food and a chance to relax and gaze out at those big Atlantic waves rolling in. A more informal pub you could not find - its not unusual to see a surfer standing at the bar, pint in hand and surf board on their arm. It is open all day, all year and has some excellent live music too. What more could you want?

Marsden Grotto, South ShieldsPosted by
gdeanouk Mention South Shields and the last thing that comes to mind is spectacular coastal scenery which can be viewed from this bar on the beach. The exterior of the bar might be viewed as a blight on the view, with its concrete facade and brick built lift-shaft in front of the cliff face. But the interior is an amazing grotto - with splendid views of the beach and rock formations from the widows.

The Waterside, NorfolkPosted by
norfolkgirl This is this the only pub on the east coast where you can watch the sun set over the sea. Enjoy a glass of Adnams or Speckled Hen after a clifftop stroll to the green at the centre of this town known to locals as Sunny Hunny. Do try the fish pie or any of the value meals in this building once the Railway Refreshment Rooms. On a clear day gaze over the Wash to Boston stump or Skegness on the Lincolshire coast.

Start Bay Inn, DevonPosted by
paddym It's a race to be first in the queue to order an evening meal at the Start Bay Inn, Torcross, in the South Hams. It's no surprise why. The fish couldn't be fresher, the batter lighter, the chips fatter. The pub, a 14th century thatched inn, is right on Slapton Sands, a two-and-a-half mile long stretch of shingle that borders a freshwater lake, Slapton Ley. Grab a pint of Otter and a table outside for the best views of the beach. Then, when you're stuffed, skim stones into Lyme Bay as the sun goes down beyond the lighthouse at Start Point.

The Ty Coch Inn, GwyneddPosted by
GeoffV A wonderful beachside pub in an idyllic setting in the village of Porth Dinllaen south of Caernarfon and north of Pwllheli. The Inn nestles in a row of cottages situated on a peninsular in North West Wales. No cars are allowed by the beach - the carpark is up the beach away from the waterside.
The pub serves local real ales in bottles. The view of the bay is spectacular and the sand golden. Indeed you are allowed to take your drink and sit on the beach. The village is protected by the National Trust and therefore its beauty will remain.
Well worth the trip

Wiseman's Bridge Inn, PembrokeshirePosted by
Tracab Set on the edge of Wiseman's Bridge bay, on the Pembrokeshire coast, this dog-friendly inn is a great all-year round visit. The large patio area overlooking the beach lends itself perfectly to balmy summer evenings, a cool sea breeze and a glass of something cold - we have also holed up there during the depths of winter, in the snug beamed bar area, where canine pals are also welcomed. The inn serves home-made food/snacks and has a separate dining area though most people opt to spent their time here outside, whatever the weather - the view is lovely!

The Ship Inn, NorthumberlandPosted by
gemmy A quaint micro-brewery on the Northumberland coast selling fine ales and food. Situated in a tiny fishing hamlet this white-washed inn has England written all over it. A fantastic place to have a quiet drink while spending a lazy afternoon on the beach, summer or winter. Rural isolation ... bliss!

The Bay Hotel, North YorkshirePosted by
MrsFiftiesThe Bay Hotel in RobinHoodsBayis as close to the sea as you can get
without getting your feet wet; on a calm day, sit on the sea wall with a
pint of Black Sheep Bitter and a fish supper from the excellent chippie in
the village. On a stormy one, make for a window seat in the pub, order the
excellent home made beef and ale pie, watch the North Seaboil below you and listen to the wheeling seagulls scream.
