A guide by undiminished
A truly moving place set up by an inspiring Cambodian man named Aki Ra who has taken it upon himself to manually clear mines and unexploded ordinance. The museum also houses child landmine victims who you can talk to and read their stories. It's not a slick set up, but much more real than any others. It's off the beaten track a little in Siem Reap - away from the perfect roads that lead to Angkor and into the real world of Cambodians.
Very friendly, safe, clean & cheap.
It is by far the best place we stayed whilst trekking across Vietnam - Cambodia.
The owners are simply wonderful.
A very good thing to do in Siem Reap, other than visiting the astonishing temples, is to give blood in the Kantha Bopha Childrens' Hospital. You cannot miss it, it's on the way to the temples. Blood is always in demand in this country where so many are excluded from giving it due to past illness, and you can be assured of total safety from infection and the highest standards of hygeine. All visitors to Angkor can leave something really useful by spending an hour of their time at the blood bank, located in the Jaya Varman VII Hospital. Get a free T-shirt, some stickers and leave behind some much-needed - healthy blood.
Jaya Varman VII Hospital, Siem Reap
A small restaurant in an alley in the centre of Siem Reap. Just ask any local or taxi to direct you. Local Khmer food, very good, very cheap. a meal for two with beer is about $10.
