We even made a barbecue on the terrace.
You'll appreciate the contrast between the crazy Buenos Aires and this haven.

Tesorito is an oasis in a busy city. It only has two guest rooms, so you need to book in advance. Besides their own room, guests have the use of a living room, dining room and leafy patio, all painted in bright colors and decorated with exquisite taste by the hostess. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and served with freshly squeezed orange juice every day. Tired of TV? Turn on the stereo, there is a large variety of CDs. The young host (fluent in four languages) and young hostess are both discreet and welcoming. The location is great, a block away from Santa Fe Street, where you will find a subway station and the 152 bus than crosses the city. Santa Fe is also a great shopping street, and boasts a bookstore that has been rated the second most amazing bookstore in the world. Only problem is the lack of good restaurants nearby. But, no worry, for only $5.00, you can take a taxi to Palermo Viejo, where good restaurants abound, and where an evening stroll is wonderful.

I stayed here 3 weeks and loved every minute! For me the downtown location is the best in the city – right in front of Ave Corrientes where really good theatres are, and really good restaurants. Walking distance to San Telmo, Congreso and surrounding areas. There is a Subte (subway) station right in front of the hostel and Palermo is 10 minutes away. The hostel itself was clean, cheap, had a kitchen, breakfast, Wi-Fi, laundry services, computers, friendly staff and much more. They have another location in Palermo as well but I opted for the location in the heart of downtown.

This lovely boutique hotel situated in the heart of San Telmo is something special. My wife and I spent the first three days of a marvellous four-week holiday in Argentina in this hotel and it certainly set the standard for the rest of the holiday.

I cannot overstate how helpful all of the staff were. The rooms, located around a central courtyard, are spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are simple but healthy and tasty.

The location may at first seem a little off-putting, but don't be. It's a great area and, as far as we are concerned, very safe. Lots of very good restaurants nearby - let the hotel staff advise you. And if you're lucky, when you are leaving they may even give you a copy of their CD featuring a mix of jazz and tango style music.

It was great to be able to walk to all of the best stores, cafes, restaurants, etc, and the metro was right there as well, though we mostly took taxis. The studio is high end and it has a lovely, lovely view of the city. There's a pool too though I ate so much red meat I didn't want to put on a bathing suit!
If you're looking for a nice little pad in the hear of the action, I highly recommend this accomodation. You get much more for your money that if you stay at a hotel.

The breakfast offered a variety which is a rarity in Argentina where most hostels offer a stale bread roll.

The hostel offers excellent value for money and I would recommend the hostel to anyone planning a trip to Buenos Aires.

I travelled around Argentina for three and a half months and found a wonderful hostel in the San Cristobel/Boedo area of Buenos Aires. It's called the 'Elefante Rosa' - it's small and feels as much a modern, boutique hotel as it does a backpackers hostel.

It's a beautifully restored old Buenos Aires house and is two minutes' walk from the tube (subte) station. The 'centre' of town is only 10 minutes away and San Telmo is just a short bus ride down the road. San Cristobel itself is an authentic Buenos Aires barrio where it's good to get away from the mass of tourists in Palermo and San Telmo. The owners are really friendly and helpful too.

The booking agent and the owners were really helpful, too. Here's a tip, though; if you speak to the owners Juan or his son Vicente, make sure you mention River Plate if you're going to talk football - they're definitely not Boca fans. It's only £150 per week (one bedroom, self-catering) and very clean/tidy with all necessary amenities. Oh, and it's opposite what used to be the Buenos Aires branch of Harrods.
