    Robertson wine tours

Posted by charlessmithson 8 November 2008

I contacted this expatriate Tim Robertson to organise some tastings of Argentine wines while in Buenos Aires.

They have seriously knowledgeable tour guides for sightseeing and the three tastings they arranged for me at different venues were superb. Great service, totally reliable and extremely knowledgeable. I cannot recommend their service enough!

    Mascato

A pretty sweet and thick wine served with soda water. Awesome to sip on the side of the streets in the San Telmo district. Keep an eye out for old men sat on wicker chairs, eating monkey nuts and smoking pipes made from shells.

The easiest, friendliest and probably best-looking bar/restaurant in BA with top cocktails supplied by a Geordie barman, barflys made up of artists and jovial locals and a kitchen that serves up delicious argie-based food with an often spicy twist (rare for BA!). Enough said.

La Botica del Vino wine store

Posted by tender 21 September 2007

It's all about the best wine in Buenos Aires you can find, but what stuck out more in my mind was the great wonderful service you get at La Botica del Vino.

It's like taking a big variety-type wine emporium blended with the attention you would get from a family store. You can't beat it, ask for Hernan. Argentina´s red wine is world class, but the prices still aren't.

    Bar Seddon

    Posted by macman37 27 August 2007

Excellent atmospheric bar full of locals all having a good time and doing it in a civilised manner.
No English spoken but ask for 'chop Quilmes' (draught beer) and that may be all the Spanish you need!

I met six other Irishmen at a football game and they announced they were off to a bar they had found that they really liked - turned out to be the same one I had discovered days before: Bar Seddon!
The food is not bad either.

    Corner Defensa and Chile.

If you really need a curry and a nice pint you should check out the bar Gibraltar in San Telmo, on the corner of Peru and Estados Unidos.

All-white decor but not as poncey as it sounds - the service is down to earth. Great place for tapas, washed down with a mojito. It’s a tiny place with tables crammed in, so get there early if you want to secure a seat.

    La Biela

Posted by UkiGoni 10 August 2005

The quintessential people-watching spot of Buenos Aires in the upscale Recoleta area. A little noisy, but its still worth it to mingle with the "beautiful people" in a city renowned for beautiful women and handsome men. Pick an outside table underneath the sprawling branches of the ancient rubber tree and let the "simpatico" waiters in their green waistcoats serve up delicious coffee. This is US actor Robert Duvall's favourite hangout when he flies to dance the tango in Buenos Aires.

A cerveceria (beer house) in Palermo Hollywood with a small range of fantastic real beers, the best in the city. Proper pints, relaxed and not Hollywood pretentious. Recommended.
