Panikovka is one of the oldest parks in Minsk. Its official name is Alexandrovsky Square, but none use it.
Tall trees, old fountain "Boy with a swan". Neighbours of Panikovka are Belarusian State Theater and President Lukashenko's residence. Minskers say Panikovka is the heart of Belarusian capital. Ar least in summer it's perfect place to drink beer. In Belarus it's still allowed to do so out in the open air.

If you travel to Minsk with a child, or if there is still a child in you, go to the circus! The circus in Minsk operates almost year round, it is a lot of fun and great entertainment even if you do not understand Russian. You can see highlights of a recent circus performance on video at the website below:

Minsk is a pretty little city, much nicer than one might expect. The best time to go is in the summer when the weather is inviting and the streets, parks and shops are lively. Prices are good and tourists are few. It is a safe country to visit. With the exception of taxi drivers, who can be very greedy, most residents are very courteous and polite to tourists.
I have written a guide to Belarus which can be found at: www.travelswise.com/belarus.htm
Great disco on Friday nights, with a really lively young crowd and plenty of Baltika in bottles. At midnight there is a dance show which is good fun.
