Belgium
I searched for three days on the internet before I found this place hidden away on a site about Ixelles, in the south of Brussels. It is a charming and enormous old townhouse with three B&B rooms on the top floor all fitted out with their own bathrooms (surprisingly difficult to find with cheap chambres d'hôte in Brussels.) The ground floor is a gallery and an organic breakfast is served either here or the a beautiful garden that the gallery gives onto. The space is also a meeting place for a documentary photography collective to which the host, Stephanie, belongs and there is a dark room hidden away in the cellar. Stephanie was incredibly welcoming and happy to answer any questions about the city. At bewteen 60 - 80 euros a night its average for a chambre d'hôte in Brussels and very affordable when you you see the rooms. The attic room in particular is breathtaking- floor to ceiling windows look over the garden. Ixelles itself is fun and arty and I much preferred staying here than the centre of Brussels. Definitely recommended!
