A place to remember
ismith
Famous as the location of many of the major battles in the first world war, Ypres (Wipers to the British world war one soldiers) or Leper in Flemish, has a long history in cloth (its well-known cloth hall was destroyed in the Great War but rebuilt).
Today it's known for the ceremony held nightly to commemorate the war with the Last Post played by members of the Fire Brigade at the Menin Gate. A great place to centre your visit of the Flanders battlefields. It is close to Passchendaele, Poelcapelle (PoelKapelle) and Zonnebeke, names synonymous withworld war one.
