                <description><![CDATA[Hortensia is a B&amp;B in the city of Ypres, a few minutes from the city ramparts at the Lille gate. I have stayed in a number of Ypres B&amp;Bs and hotels, and while they were all satisfactory, I found Hortensia to be excellent in all respects. The owner, Andre Parys, is exceptionally friendly and helpful, offering bike rental, storage for motorbikes and bikes and insider knowledge of the area. The rooms are spacious and spotless and the breakfasts excellent. Hortensia is located near the Lille gate, which means you can have yourself a nice walk on the city ramparts to the Menin gate ceremony and any one of the nice restaurants and tea rooms in town. Parking is plentiful nearby. Value for money is excellent at just over 60 euros for a two-person room. I plan to return here whenever I come back to Ypres.]]></description>

                <description><![CDATA[My father and I just spent a pleasant 5 days in Ypres, at Camalou B&amp;B.  We found it to be a great base from which to explore both the salient and the surrounding countryside.  Annette and Christian are great hosts - they treat their guests like old friends and they are a font of information about Ypres and anywhere else you would like to explore.  Annette does great tours of the battlefields, but whatever you choose to do with your day, she will have some invaluable insider tip for you. The rooms are beautifully furnished and comfortable, the breakfasts hearty and family-style. Camalou is about 3.2 km from the center, which means you will need a car, but you are near roundabouts that will take you to any key towns in the salient, and you get to wake up to the sound of local roosters and dairy cows. At around 65 euros/night, Camalou is an ideal Ypres headquarters. I heartily recommend it.]]></description>

                <description><![CDATA[Near Ypres is the village of Passchendaele made famous (infamous) by the third battle of Ypres (Passchendaele). Passchendaele was obliterated totally in world war one, but today it is renowned for its cheese. <br><br>Passendale (the Flemish) cheese is a semi-soft cheese made from cow's milk. With its brown crust, covered with white mould, it resembles a round loaf of bread. The Passendale cheese has distinctive rounded edges and a soft, damp consistency. The flavour is mild and creamy.                 <description><![CDATA[A small older-style hotel with some character, the hotel was rebuilt after it was flattened in the first world war. Its location on the north side of the Ypres town square makes it centrally located for visits to the Cloth Hall or the nightly Menin Gate ceremony.<br><br>The food is very good; there is a restaurant and brasserie and they also stock a lot of different Belgian beers which you enjoy in the beer garden out front. A good clean budget style hotel for the stay in Ypres (no car parking though, you park in the street behind).]]></description>
