Capital gains

They are very quick to remind you here that Sucre is technically the capital of Bolivia, though the size of the place would have you thinking otherwise. In fact, it´s the compact nature of the city that makes it such a compelling place. Within a couple of days you will soon make a number of friends either among the welcoming locals or the network of gringos who seem to end up spending longer than anticipated here whilst taking classes at one of the many language schools, doing some voluntary work, or simply hanging around the delightful Plaza chatting with the charismatic shoeshine boys. Architecturally, the city centre is very well preserved and a pleasure to walk round without the oppressive traffic and breathless altitude of La Paz.
