A five-hour tour given by Brazil Expedition that includes a short hike showing the best view of the beaches, the Christ Statue, the old Santa Tereza neighborhood, and an interesting work of art in downtown Lapa. It shows you many sides of Rio that aren't easy or as enjoyable to see on your own with fluent english speaking guides. Great tour, great sights, great experience and great price, I highly recommend it!
I went to this restaurant while in Rio about a year and a half ago (2007), really enjoyed the food, met the lovely owners (friends of the locals I was visiting) and then promptly forgot the name of the place to write a review.
I heartily recommend this restaurant - one of the best in Rio (in Botofogo) but also one of the most laid-back and, having just looked on their website, it seems to be winning lots of foodie prizes.

In my vacations I went to Casa Rosa in Laranjeiras and I love it. On Sundays they offer Feijoada and Samba. The food was delicious and the sound was terrific!

When staying in Rio, definitely do not stay in Copacabana etc - too many tourists… and you may as well be in Benidorm.
We stayed in St Theresa. There are great authentic restaurants, cafes etc. The architecture is colonial Portuguese. And best of all, to get down into Rio centre you take a tram down the 3:1 slope, this too is 100 years old, and it feels like it.
