Brazil
This place is awesome, and so is the food. This was one of our first dinner stops and we still have fond memories of it.
But the cuisine is just the first chapter of the house, the other side of the thing is a great night! The cool and trendy DJs spin the latest e-music hits, while a crowd of young and beautiful people makes things even more interesting. Should you come down to Rio, give it a try. Zero Zero is located in Gávea, near the Planetarium.
Av Padre Leonel Franca, 240 Gávea.

It's a late dance bar and has an interesting interior, design-wise. However, the night we went there the music was crap and the clientele consisted of 6 of the DJ's mates, a straight couple and us.
Left almost immediately yet despite this they still demanded a 20 Real cover charge each and got all aggressive when we contested it. Rio is a great city and there are plenty of places more deserving of custom.
If you are planning a few nights out, be mindful that most clubs will let you in with casual clothing, not beachwear but not ultra-smart either.
Bunker club between Ipanema and Copacabana is popular with local kids and students. It's dark, spacious and a good place to avoid the 'filhas de programa'; in other words, it's somewhere to meet girls who aren't after your cash.
Nova Geracao Jiu Jitsu is a great club in which to learn the grappling style that's changed the martial arts' world. Guys from all over Leblon train together and it's very open to beginners.
Bunker - big square between Ipanema and Copacabana. The club is on the south side, on the main bus route. NGJJ is off Viconde de Piraha in Leblon. Popular local club, near beach.
Situated in a large 19th-century building and decorated with Brazilian exotica – as well as a bar and concert venue, it is the main props house for the local film and theatre industry – this is where you come to soak up Rio’s bohemian past. In the evenings - from Tuesday to Saturday – it is the best local showcase of traditional music, such as samba, forró and chorinho.

If you're tired of beautiful bodies on the beach and want to check out the alternative scene in Ipanema get yourself down to Dama. Owned by metal-work artist and furniture designer Adriana Lima, (Dama de Ferro = Iron Lady) Dama is a late night electro/house/alternative club with the best local and international DJs, contemporary decor and an up-for-it late night crowd.
Rua Vinicius de Moraes, 288, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro
This is the official bossanova club in Rio. It is pretty touristy, but you can see some of the original voices and players of the Brazilian bossa wave which was headed by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Don't miss it if you are a fan. Also worth visiting is music shop Toca de Vinicius.
It's central and features in most tourist guides.
