    Brazil Expedition

    Posted by adam32 28 November 2007

Brazil Expedition is a team that provides guidance and vehicles for many different sorts of tours.

They drive you to Tijuca Forest, a completely reforested area of Rio. There you will get to see all kinds of vegetation, some wildlife, and a waterfall. You can also make a light hike up to the top of Pedra Bonita, one of Rio’s nicest views. There you will enjoy a view of Rio few people have had the privilege to see, and watch the hanggliders and paragliders jumping off the ramp. And last but not least, the Brazil Expedition staff take you to great soccer games in Maracana, the bigger soccer stadium in the world.
They are very professional and language skilled.

    Go native

Posted by ECVitoria 20 September 2005

To look less like a gringo don’t take a towel to the beach, buy a sarong or kanga - sold everywhere for two or three pounds. Also avoid changing on the beach as wriggling into or out of your cossie attracts looks of incredulity from Brazilians. Although the girls are happy to wear “dental floss” bikinis, going topless will attract lots of unwanted attention.

If you want to join in a game of football on the beach, just ask. Most guys will be happy to oblige and, given the language barrier in Brazil, it’s a good way of going native. They’ll probably make monkey of you, but if you score a goal, you’ll have a fantastic story to bore your mates with back home.

Do all this on Ipanema-Leblon - Copacobana is about as cool as Eastbourne.

The Lord Jim Pub was founded by the late Jim Phillips and his wife, Annie, in 1974. It was once a favourite haunt of Ronnie Biggs and today is one of Rio's most popular nightspots with both expats and a young Carioca crowd. If you're looking for somewhere to watch the English Premier League, Series A, La Liga or the Champions' League, The Lord Jim shows two, sometimes three, premiership matches a week and four Champions' League games every round on its big screen. And following our long-awaited Ashes triumph, cricket junkies will be able watch live coverage of England's winter tour to Pakistan.

The pub has a selection of imported draught beers including Guinness, Heineken and Old Speckled Hen, and, if you feel like a taste of home, the pub grub menu includes full English breakfast, fish and chips and a selection of pies, steaks and curries. If you're staying at the Copacabana Palace, Annie Phillips is still around, working as hospitality manager.

The Lord Jim Pub is at Rua Paul Redfern 63, Ipanema, a block and a half back from the beach, near the Jardim de Alah, between Rua Prudente de Moraes and Rua Visconde de Pirajá. You can't miss it. There's a working red London 'phone box outside. Tel. 2259 3047, www.lordjimpub.com.br

    Lagoa

Posted by AlexBellos 10 August 2005

The Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon at the back of Ipanema has a cycle-path and a park around its perimeter. There are kiosks serving food and you can rent pedalos, bikes for kids and on weekends have a go on an elasticated harness.
