Brazil
Their street art is everywhere, livening up the dour concrete with their socially conscious wit and style. The twins' uniquely Brasilian take on graffiti has now risen to prominence and their work has been used in the Fernando Meirelles produced futebol documentary 'Ginga'. It's still best viewed on São Paulo's walls, buildings and underpasses. Keep your eyes peeled.
One of the many tributaries running up to and across Avenida Paulista. This is a trendy part of town notable for its multitude of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Keep your eyes peeled for the street art. There's some interesting graffiti and amusingly designed stickers to be found here. If you're hungry there is great sushi to be had at gohan cozinha oriental - R.Augusta 2542.
Rua Augusta
An excellent art gallery containing a fine collection of works by Brazilian artists, plus good travelling exhibitions. There’s a nice cafe too. Beware the local park, and avoid this area at night.
Avenida Tiradentes 141
This is a cracking gallery showcasing some of the best of São Paulo's burgeoning street art and graffiti scene.
Rua João Moura, nº 997, Pinheiros, CEP: 05412-002
Large gallery showing a range of work by the prolific Brasilian artist and friend to the stars Romero Britto. There are some beautiful pictures on display and plenty of bars and cafes to relax in afterwards on Rua Oscar Freire.
Rua Oscar Freire, 562
Another place to visit for Niemeyer fans. Set over a large concrete site, this is a modernist architectural tribute to the concept of Latin American unity, from Simón Bolívar to the present day. There's a concert hall, gallery, murals, library, conference centre and a spectacular concrete hand protuding out of the ground with Latin America running red from the palm into the ground.
Av. Auro Soares de Moura Andrade, 664 Barra Funda
Oca is a museum and exhibition space designed by Oscar Niemeyer, architect of the capital Brasilia. It's one for fans of modernist architecture and culture as well. Looking like a flying saucer that has landed in the middle of the city, the Oca consistently puts on great exhibitions in a massive space that is well worth checking out.
Parque Ibirapuera
If you’re visiting Morumbi, don’t miss this beautiful modernist house; it’s a museum, but feels like a private home, crammed with well-chosen pictures and furniture. The gardens are great too, and there’s a good cafe.
