Life in the slow lane
My enduring memory of Kampot is being sat by the riverside watching an old man trundle along with a four-posted double bed on the back of his tricycle.

Lined with wisened French villas, life is slow amongst the green and overgrown squares of Kampot: an ideal get away from the smoke and bustle of Phnom Penh and the backpacking crowd at Sihanoukville.

A couple of days spent idling round on a pushbike or a scooter are among the most enjoyable I've had. It's also a fantastic base to explore Bokor National Park where the eerie Bokor Palace Hotel looks out from mist-covered hills and into the South China sea.
