    Lachine Canal

Posted by mortmuffin 7 August 2006

A cycle/footpath starts in the Vieux Port, and runs west along the Lachine Canal. You can continue along the northern bank of Lac St Louis if you're feeling fit, or if you don't like doing there-and-back rides you can come back along the river past the Lachine rapids.

The tour De L'Isle all-comers cycle day

Posted by Tupper 17 September 2005

Every summer, a route around the city/island is closed off to cars and turned into an all-comers cycle route. No registration required. Although it's about 50km-odd in length, the flatness of the terrain means that just about anyone with a saddle-hardened arse can make it. I had the priviledge of cycling through the famous Olympic stadium to the strains of John Williams' Star Wars theme in 2001. Unforgettable.
