    The Astor House Hotel

Posted by kstranix 26 December 2007

This hotel is an absolute gem of colonial history. For about £40 the Richard Executive Suite makes you feel like a visiting diplomat!

The building has a rich history and is located on the edge of the bund - within easy walking distance of Shanghai's main attractions.

It really made our visit to Shanghai, I can't imagine there is a better place to stay in the city.

I would also recommend a cocktail at M on the Bund - if you want to continue the glamorous feel.

    The Bund

Posted by PhilSen 8 September 2005

Shanghai is a city where East meets West, and nowhere more so that on the waterfront. On the westside, Puxi, stands a row of grand colonial buildings that still have the power to dominate the view despite the skyscrapers surrounding them. Check out the ceiling inside the dome of the HSBC building - they clearly had the Sistine Chapel in mind.

Ask a taxi driver for 'Waitan' or else get off Metro Line 2 at Henan Zhong Lu and walk east down Nanjing Lu.
