Shambhala Palace hotel

Posted by catherineking 24 February 2013

A lovely, laid-back, quiet rooftop bar and restaurant, with views of the Potala Palace. Pretty much only used by hotel guests, so not raucous, and with no-one hassling you for your table like the rooftop places off Barkhor Square. A perfect place for breakfast, or to let the afternoon and evening slip by.

This is a great site for off-the-beaten-track individual travel in China. The best parts are the routes and hidden gems. The section on Tibet gives some great tips. Especially about the train from Lhasa to Beijing.

Rombuk is the highest monastery in the world and boasts absolutely stunning views. It was one day of our amazing 'Back Roads to Kathmandu' trip with Electric Pagoda - highly recommended!

Yak Hotel, Lhasa

Posted by bonaome 26 September 2006

Good hotel in the heart of Lhasa. Comfortable rooms which are clean and which sometimes have working heating. Great restaurant downstairs - try a yak burger for novelty, momos for pleasure and yak butter tea for punishment. Great place to stay. If you're starting off in Lhasa, it's a gentle introduction to Tibet. If you've crossed Lhasa to get here it will seem like the most luxurious hotel in the world. Reasonably priced.
