The island of Krk in the Bay of Kvarner is the largest one in the Adriatic and even has an airport which is confusingly known as Rijeka. The island is connected to the mainland by a 1430m concrete arch bridge which was opened in 1980.
Highlights on Krk are the ancient settlement of Krk Town and the town of Baska on the southern tip which has one of Croatia's best beaches. The area around Punat produces excellent organic olive oil.
