A riva runs through it

Unesco protected Trogir is one of our favourite towns on the Dalmatian Coast and, unlike many, has a life all year round.
It lies on a small island, between the mainland and Čiovo Island, and is linked to both by road bridges. Expect morning and evening traffic jams over the bridges in the summer as tourists head to and from the beaches on Čiovo Island. Split is half an hour away by car, and the airport is just a 15 minute drive from Trogir.
In July and August, the wide, palm tree lined Riva (boardwalk) is packed with promenaders and the town quay is a favourite mooring for luxury yachts. There are hundreds of restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlours along the Riva and amongst the narrow alleys and cobbled streets behind.
The summer festival has an eclectic mix of entertainment, including open air concerts in the Kamerlengo Castle but there’s also a great rock duet, who perform, most summer nights, in a small square on the main road side of the cathedral. For swimming, it’s best to go to the Čiovo Island beaches nearby.
