    Dolac Market

Posted by goingwithmygut 24 November 2009

Huge farmer's and trader's market. Mostly fresh produce, with a corner for crafts. Street level is fruits and vegetables. Side building is for seafood, and a couple of floors below-ground house fresh and deli meats, and cheese.

Fantastic for assembling a cheap and delicious picnic, even better if you're buying food to cook in your self cate apartment. If you're not the DIY type, choose one of the many wine and local "tapas" bars on the perimeter to people-watch.

Open from 6am - 2pm each day, and until 3pm on Saturdays.

The Dolac Market is situated 50 metres off the main town square (Jelacic Square).

    Hotel Esplanade

Posted by jessicake 12 July 2009

A beautiful and recently refurbished five star hotel, with the best location in the city. It was built to serve the Orient Express customers and the decor and ambience reflect this.
It was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in, oozed luxury and relaxation, beutiful rooms with L'Occitane toiletries, lovely massage in the spa downstairs, gorgeous terrace bar and great service. Zagreb is a gem of a city and felt friendly from the moment we arrived. This hotel made it the highlight of my holiday. I loved it.

    Fran's Reef Restaurant

Posted by PetraV 23 December 2007

Fran's is a great little lobster and tapas bar situated in the old part of town (Vranicanijeva 6). It has the best summer terrace in town. Gornji grad (the upper town) offers superb views overlooking Zagreb.

    Mirogoj cemetery

Posted by perovskaya 10 February 2006

Surprisingly, one of Zagreb's nicest walks is around it's beautiful cemetery. Not as macabre as it sounds. It's easy to get there by bus, but is also a very do-able walk from the town centre. Gorgeous in autumn - buy roasted chestnuts and enjoy the views. Particularly lovely on All Hallow's Eve - October 31 - when people flock there to lay out thousands of candles on family graves.

Bus No 106 from the cathedral (takes 15 minutes) or tram No 14 from Bana Jelacica square

    Rab Island old town

Posted by jamesinlondon 2 May 2006

Quite simply one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Well worth the 90 minute drive from the capital. After wandering the upper streets and taking in the breathtaking views you are then rewarded with a well deserved Karlovacko beer in one of the many bars on the lower street. I'd especially recommend Bar Sanda.

I have to also mention the sunset from Captain's Club in Banjol (just a 15 minute coastal walk from the old town).
