    Restaurant touts in Trinidad

Posted by viajante 4 January 2012

This probably only happens in low season (we went mid-December), but the ever present touts are actually offering deals - 6 or 7 CUC for a meal that will cost you 10 CUC untouted.

    Casa Balbina Cadahia

Posted by keeneye 3 March 2009

We found Trinidad to be casa heaven, and Casa Balbina Cadahia was our highlight.

Located a 4-5 minute walk from the main square, this casa contains a beautifully peaceful courtyard and large, spacious bedrooms. This was undoubtedly the most comfortable bed we stayed in on our trip.

Food was good and plentiful and our host was friendly (and English speaking for those that find that useful).

On a more general point, I would encourage you to do some casa research before leaving for Cuba. We found the Lonely Planet to be next to useless when trying to find accomodation: some places were no longer there; some, it seemed, had never been there. Use websites like this instead.

Also, despite warnings that Cuban banks will not accept debit cards, my Nationwide Visa card was happily accepted.

Anyhow, as I was saying: you'll love Trinidad, and you'll love this casa.

    Paladares in Trinidad

Posted by ofghent 4 December 2006

Two paladares stand out in Trinidad:

Sol y Son - very nice comida criolla, in the courtyard of a Trinidad Colonial residence.

Estela - The best paladare in Trinidad, and the only place we ate at twice in Cuba. Brilliant home cooked style comida criolla, with huge portions in a beautiful setting.

    Sol y Son - Bolivar 283 e. Pais y Marti
    Estela - Bolivar 557 e. Marquez y Mendoza

    Cheap, local pizza

Posted by mazur 15 August 2006

Try pizza for Cubans, sold from house windows. If you look around you can get this cheap and tasty local pizza for as little as 5 peso cubanos. Greate taste. Enjoy your meal!

Try Piro Guinart, the green house on the corner, a few metres from the bus terminal.

    Valle de los Ingenios

Posted by PierreLittbarski 11 August 2006

To visit the valley just outside Trinidad you can take a taxi-tour for 20 cuc or the train (which doesn't run everyday). It's beautiful.
In Trinidad stay at Ruth's, she is very friendly gives you huge portions if you have dinner there.
