Includes three park areas and 120+ buildings, showing Wallachian culture. Includes an inn, church, school, post office and many more. Our faves are the waterwheel-powered sawmill and the blacksmiths' workshop. Old timber structures are intricate and beautiful. Great day out, lots of walking involved. Largest of its kind in central Europe.

Train/bus/car from Ostrava. Excellent day trip.www.roznov.cz

    OKD mining museum

Sounds dull and isn't. Enthusiastic guide shows you what it was like to work in the mines and you can go into the mineshaft to see the grim conditions and basic safety precautions miners were treated to. Loads of old equipment and good displays. The Landek Venus provides archeological interest. It's thirsty work looking around the place, and now there's a restaurant there, too.
