A guesthouse and restaurant housed in an 18th century farmhouse, this is the most impressive restaurant I've been to in the Czech countryside. A stone's throw from Prague (less than a 30 minute drive from the centre), Penzion V Polich is set in the pretty village of Malé Čičovice, a mile from historical site of Okor.
Penzion V Polich is a wonderful place to finish a romp in the countryside with some hearty food in comfortable surroundings. The menu has a heavy Czech influence and offers a lot of game, but the tastes are more refined and adventurous than you will see on a typical Czech tourist menu. On my recent visit options included smoked duck breast, foie gras, pork belly, goose, fallow dear and rabbit, all cooked exceptionally well.
The staff speak relatively little English by Prague standards but are incredibly accommodating of non-Czech visitors and patient in translating as much as they can. The penzion is warm and cosy on a winter's afternoon, but also offers outside dining space for the summer months. Prices are very reasonable: three courses and two beers set us back around 600 czk per person, for some of the best food I have eaten in the Czech Republic. Be sure to book ahead.
A real treat.

Residence Tabor

Posted by PeteST 27 May 2010

A bargain of a three-star hotel in the bohemian Zizkov area of Prague, just three tram stops from the centre and walking distance from many bars and clubs. Great breakfast and always a personal welcome from the extremely friendly manager. I now always stay here when I visit Prague. The most I've paid is 30 euros a night, and for a better standard than many other budget hotels at twice the price.

The Golden Wheel

Posted by gdeanouk 31 January 2010

Boutique bed and breakfast in Prague.
If any European city goes out of its way to make the British feel welcome, in our experience, it has to be Prague. And the Golden Wheel, despite being sleek, stylish and thoroughly modern, has an extremely welcoming atmosphere. All members of the hotel staff were helpful and friendly, with nothing being too much trouble.
The conversion of a building with a history going back 500 years has been carried out tastefully, providing unique bedrooms – ours was more like a suite – very different to the standard chain hotel rooms.
The small coffee shop on the ground floor was a real bonus – we stayed in winter and the hot chocolate was a warming treat on returning the hotel.
The location is ideal for exploring Prague – the Golden Wheel is situated in the Lesser Quarter, squeezed between the cobbled Nerudova Street and the castle walls. It’s also only a short walk to Charles Bridge and then across to the Old Town.

Pension Vysehrad

Posted by taycheedah 30 January 2010

I selected the Pension Vysehrad because of its quirkiness and size (only five rooms), its location (a quiet residential neighbourhood 20 minutes’ walk from the city centre), its exceptionally reasonable room rates and its charming website. Guests are invited to help themselves to whatever they want for breakfast in the well-stocked dining room, which opens out onto a lush garden with patio. Hana, the welcoming owner, had lots of helpful suggestions about how to make the most of my time in and around Prague. And pets are welcome to stay free of charge. I wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else.

House At The Big Boot

Posted by CFullerton 24 January 2010

A really happy bed and breakfast find in a quiet, atmospheric corner of Mala Strana. Only five minutes from the Charles Street Bridge, but well hidden from the tourist bustle. It has it all – great rooms with lots of local character, authentic and friendly Prague landlord and family, great tips for further sights and dining out, good breakfast. It doesn’t have TV or doorways sympathetic to 6ft plus teenagers – provided great material for a piece of A Level travel writing coursework though.

Hotel Four Seasons

Four houses - modern, neo-Classical, Baroque and neo-Renaissance - make up this elegant riverside hotel. Luxuriously appointed modern rooms, state of the art business facilities. Modern fine dining restaurant, softly lit and stylishly understated.

Hotel U Tří Korunek

Posted by NBPage 29 August 2009

Great Prague Hotel in great Location Zizkov is one of my favourite parts of Prague. It's part of the city that is old but still lived in. It not just a tourist district.

The hotel has friendly helpful staff. The rooms are great. And it's easy to get to and from.

The Castle Steps Hotel

Posted by SarahBmn 27 August 2009

First and foremost, this hotel is in a great location in a great city. Prague is rather compact and as the name suggests, it is near Prague Castle. Everywhere of interest is reachable by foot and we didn't use any public transport.

The room we got at the hotel was spacious and got a great deal of light, whereby we got a wonderful view of the little quarter. It was lovely and peaceful at night and hard to imagine the throngs of tourists that were in the city during the day.

The room was spotless and well decorated and the young staff were willing to bend over backwards to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

prague-stay.com

Posted by RubyRose 13 August 2009

I use Prague-Stay.com when visitors come to Prague. The agents are really professional and friendly, the apartments are cool, located in the center and are much more reasonable than a hotel. One friend of mine stayed at the Franciscan Garden Apartments and his apartment was just amazing-it was all windows and had awesome views of Old Town and this massive Gothic church. I really suggest you have a look at their selection of apartments.

I love Sir Toby's for the atmosphere - it is a super cool hostel with great staff, clean rooms, cool garden for lounging, reading and drinking a beer, cellar pub for mingling with other guests, eclectic furniture and so much more. I loved my stay and recommend it to anyone heading to Prague.

Miss Sophie's

Posted by Fian 11 August 2009

A friend and I were looking for budget accommodation in Prague and stumbled upon 'Miss Sophies'. We booked a twin room for £50 per night which we considered a bargain for such a clean, modern hostel in a great location.

It was everything we needed, with friendly English speaking staff, comfy beds, fantastic modern bathroom and a communal kitchen and lounge in the basement where you could chat and eat with other guests.

The Castle Steps Hotel

Posted by Syk92 13 July 2009

We just went to Prague and wanted to stay in a nice area. We got a great deal for June at the Castle Steps Hotel.

We originally booked one of their cheapest rooms. The pictures looked great and we got free internet and breakfast. When we turned up the hotel wasn't full and they automatically upgraded us - we got a bedroom, living room and small kitchen!

Best thing was we had a small balcony overlooking a park and to say we were in the centre near the castle it was so peaceful. Wonderful.

The Castle Steps Hotel Prague

Posted by lynettez 15 April 2009

I saw short reviews of this hotel around up in the charts for best value for money, as I like to scour for hidden gems. I was not disappointed. It is situated under the castle exactly in the centre but with great prices. The staff were excellent and very informal and relaxed but still willing to pander to your needs. we got an apartment for four people and it had all the trimmings. Wooden floors and antiques in an old building - and free breakfast to boot.

Praha Expert's prague apartments

Posted by PragueFan 3 February 2009

Just came back home after staying in one of Praha Expert's holiday apartments. Everything was exactly as promised, the airport transfer was on time and the driver very friendly. I even got help directly from the owner of the company, when I wasn't able to make "my" washing machine work - which was because I had made a mistake. Everything with a smile

The Castle Steps Hotel

Uses all-natural products and it is ecologically conscious. Ideally situated near the castle in the historic (non-raucous) part of the city. All decked with parquet flooring and antiques, it is a must. We stayed in the Jasmine Apartment but take a look at their website or call them for advice - they have many different options.

Rentego

Posted by bearandlion 9 January 2009

Rentego let out small and large apartments around Prague for visitors. We stayed in one of their smallest (Mala) and had a lovely time. It was modest but clean and tidy and had everything we needed for a good, self-catered holiday. When you're hardly in your room anyway, there really is no point blowing out on the hotel and this place was budget but very nice.

Hostel Downtown

Posted by Sissi 9 January 2009

Newly opened, this hostel was a great bargain. Right smack in the middle of the city, it was less than a five minute walk to Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. The common room was nice because it had a TV and there was a fully equipped kitchen to make snacks. Access to internet was also really easy. Breakfast in the morning was cheap and delicious – you can’t ask for much more from a cheap hostel in Prague!
