    Zoo Praha

Posted by ForumChan 14 June 2010

In a city that may not seem to be the most obvious family-friendly destination, Prague's zoo is a welcome respite from the obligatory historical and cultural sightseeing for visitors with young children. It houses animals from all over the world, including big cats, gorillas and elephants, and there is also a children's zoo and play area for the little ones. If you still have the time and energy to spare, check out the splendid Troja castle and gardens over the road.
Well worth a trip out of the city centre.

    Hotel The Castle Steps

Posted by muranmuran 1 October 2008

We stayed in this hotel recently and got a great room with a small balcony looking out onto a park. It was wonderfully clean. The room was in a different building as the reception (although the same street), but this was no problem. The staff seemed to all be from the USA and were always on hand and friendly.

When we booked we did not realise how central it was - just under the castle. However, the area was surprisingly peaceful at night.

I'm recommending it to all my friends.

    Vyšehrad

Posted by joelouisandrew 8 October 2005

Apparently this is where the first Slav tribes settled in Prague, and this is their fort. It's a smaller castle or fortress at the southern end of the city, perched at the top of a hill that overlooks the city. The views across Prague are amazing, you can literally perch on the wall and gaze across the more popular Prague Castle. This place is less visited by tourists and is a very calm and relaxing place if you want to escape the city centre for a while.

There is a lovely church and graveyard where famous Czechs are buried (politicians, artists) - in fact Dvorak's grave is here.

There's a metro station at Vyšehrad - when you come out of the station, head for the river along čiklova, then onto Slavojova, then do a left onto Vratislavova and just follow the road up and round to the right.

Or, you can get tram #3, #7, #16, #17 or #21. They stop closer than the metro station.
