TEG (Timoure et Group) is a small Czech fashion chain created by Alexandra Pavalová and Ivana Šafránková, two of Prague’s most respected designers.
Their boutique offers everyday, wearable clothes for women with a sharp, sophisticated edge. As well as their dressier collection, their thin cotton T-shirts, offered in a rainbow of shades, are particular favourites - essential summer staples.
Well worth checking out if shopping centrally.

The design shop within the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague 7 stocks stunning glassware, porcelain, jewelry, lighting, furniture and other work by a number of leading contemporary Czech designers.
This bright white, airy, almost clinical space is a refreshing change to some of the more traditional Czech gift stores in central Prague and is still a great place to pick up a souvenir. How about a stylish Czech made mechanical pencil by Versatil or a Merkur construction set?
There’s a lovely café with outside seating, where you can admire your purchases afterwards. Oh yes, and a world class museum of contemporary art is downstairs. Just in case.

For a break from the more obvious tourist souvenirs, or if you have underestimated the brutality of the Prague winter, pay a trip to Model Praha Klobouky off Wenceslas Square and buy yourself a hat.
This delightful shop, tucked away on an arcade leading off Wenceslas Square, seems to hark back to a time where nice young ladies donned hats and gloves each day before leaving the house. Perhaps this is due to its impressive stock of TONAK hats – world renowned felt hats of the highest quality. TONAK is a Czech manufacturer with a legacy stretching back to the mid-19th century, which is borne out in all of its creations.
Model Praha stocks top hats, fedoras, ladies headwear (suitable for weddings and the races) and a small selection of fur.
The ladies who work here are charmingly patient, and speak enough English for everyone to get by without too much difficulty.
A great place to invest in a little piece of Czech fashion history, starting at a very reasonable 450 czk.

This cute café in Prague 2 has a range of attractions: newsagents (“trafika”), shop and tobacconists up front, with café behind, piano in the corner, occasional music events and small vinoteka.
Like a much-loved teddy bear, local favourite Dobra Trafika is a little worn around the edges, which makes local residents love it even more.
The menu includes several pages of teas and coffees, cakes and delicious stuffed pitta breads, at cheap-as-chips prices.
Delightfully scruffy, living-room-cosy and great value.

While the vintage scene in Prague is very much in its infancy, there are a few places where a clothing hunt will produce more treasure than trash. The Item is one such gem.
The Item boasts a good range of vintage clothing lovingly restored by its American owner-dressmakers. This charming boutique also has its own 'house label' Kiss My Valentine, through which designers turn colourful 50s and 60s dresses into more contemporary items and create replica party dresses from luxurious Italian fabrics. A good range of accessories including clutches, jewellery and headpieces.
A lovely shop for a splurge.

Bio Zahrada (meaning Bio or Eco Garden) is a shop and café with an emphasis on fresh and organic food, moments from Namesti Miru.
Enjoy brilliant fresh coffee in the non-smoking café (with small outside terrace) behind the shop. Different fresh soups and main meals are available daily (if you weren’t hungry when you arrived, the wonderful smells emanating from the kitchen will probably entice you) and a good range of cakes.
The shop sells a good range of organic produce including locally produced vegetables and organic meat.

Two minutes from the Old Town square but tucked away on a side street this place has everything - a restaurant, a wine bar, a café and a food shop.
On winter evenings it’s a lovely place to go with friends for wine of varying prices but consistently good quality. Many are available by the glass. During the summer, sit in the peaceful courtyard at the back of the restaurant for al fresco dining.
The evening menu is very good but the real bonus is the daily lunch menu - choose between two and three courses, with or without wine, and you will have change from 200CZK.
Expect European cuisine with a twist of Czech including duck, rabbit and dumplings.

Prague's only real fleamarket 'Bleší trh' happens every Saturday morning in Kolbenova (beside Kolbenova metro).
A huge sprawling outdoor market, you'll find broken electronics, piles of clothes, paintings, communist items, furniture, jugs, quirky souvenirs, jewellery, and the odd amazing antique find for a Czech price.
It's 20 czk you pay in at the turnstile (under a euro) and well worth the finds.
Get there early (7am-2pm) and bring a phrase book so you can haggle with Czech prices. Don't expect English.
There's also plenty of sausage stalls and trailer-bars when you want to stop for a beer (pivo).

We did not find the shopping great in Prague - nothing different that you could not get at home - and always the same price if not more - and that is bad value!
However, we got a tip from a local shop owner to go to Chodov Shopping Centrum - it was ok -great if you are looking for Zara, M&S etc. There were a few Czech shops - again it was the same price as home but if you don't mind this - it is worth a trip for all those shopaholics!
You take the red line metro to Chodov - which is the third last stop coming from the Museum or Mustek stop (7/8 stops) and the shopping centre is literally outside the Metro stop.
Second hand cameras and films and everything for the Photographer. If you are into traditional photography, try Fotopan B/W film, good stuff and great value!!
Vodičkova 37, Praha 1, just off Wenceslas Square, in the street with the trams!
Good quality, friendly Italian restaurant (but no jokes about horses' heads!). Four of us ate here in Sept 2005 - 5-course meal, 2 bottles of wine - 1,850Kr (about £45). Ground floor if you want to pose with the beautiful young things of Prague (and the smokers), down in the basement for a quieter, smoke-free meal. Really very good quality, as well as good value. Try it.
Just around the corner, in a new shopping mall, you can find both Carrefour and M&S!
Metro or tram: Andel.
Exit station following "tram" signs, restaurant is immediately opposite the metro entrance at Na Belidle 42 (telephone 251511244).
If you are going to meet up with someone, meet at the massive statue of Vaclav/Wenceslas at the top of the square. Easy to find, popular meeting spot, so good for people watching

Prague is famous for the Bohemian glass industry going back to the middle ages. There is plenty of over-priced trash. But also interesting modern glass to be bought at bargain prices if you search.
