Axel Hotel Guldsmeden

Posted by choirgirl24 2 March 2010

Part of a small chain of genuinely eco-friendly boutique hotels, this doesn't stint on quality, from the toiletries to the bed linen and the sumptuous, cheese-tastic organic breakfasts.

hotelguldsmeden.com/axel/english/
Axel is one of three Guldsmeden hotels in Vestrobro, a 10-min walk west of Copenhagen's central station.

Hotel Kong Arthur

Posted by AnjaMoller 4 January 2010

A four star hotel, but it feels like a five star one. A really beautiful place - quiet and exclusive, but still in walking distance from all the major sights and shopping. I loved the historic feel of the hotel.

Friendly staff. A hotel with lots of atmosphere and reasonably priced for Denmark/Copenhagen. Great breakfast and nice rooms. Wonderfully located. Try the tapas-bar next door!

Classic elegant old building in good location. Traditional style décor with dark wood paneling. Comfortable rooms with old-fashioned furniture. Atrium style banquet hall. Wood-paneled, atmospheric brasserie offering traditional Danish cooking.

Hotel Guldsmeden Axel

Posted by Kilkee 2 July 2009

This is a really special hotel with a very strong emphasis on environmental matters, e.g they do not sell bottled water and all the food is organic.

The breakfast is to die for. Not your "Full Irish" (or English). I don't believe I have met such genuinely friendly and helpful staff in any hotel, not just something out of the customer service manual.

The hotel is very central, close to the Tivoli Gardens, Rail Station and the pedestrianised shopping street. One negative - a little close to the red light district. And it's not cheap.

Danhostel Copenhagen City

Posted by Sissi 23 July 2008

On a recent trip I stayed at this hostel in Copenhagen and it was a great base for exploring the city, as well as one of the most affordable places to stay in this pricey city.

It’s in the perfect location right near Vesterbro, the hip quarter jammed with vintage clothes stores, trendy nightclubs and late-night bars – with an unbeatable view of the city from all the rooms as it's housed in one of Copenhagen’s few tall buildings.
There’s a bar and restaurant on the premises, and a kitchen which is helpful for budget travelers.

It is a bit dated in terms of decor but the location is good and the breakfast is great. Lovely cheese, bread and other goodies to really set you up for the day.

Bertrams Guldsmeden

Posted by YinLi 30 November 2006

Is one of the Guldsmeden chain of boutique hotels, and is a wonderful haven of luxury in funky Vesterbro. Four-poster beds, flat screen TVs, slipper baths with claw feet, and a stonkingly good organic buffet breakfast. Knowledgeable and friendly staff - a great base for Copenhagen. There's another branch called the Carlton, and another planned for 2007.

Hotel Fox

Posted by mkadavies 29 November 2006

Great boutique hotel near centre of town. Conceived as promotional project for VW, 21 international designers and urban artists were briefed to design unique rooms. Result is a strange and otherworldy experience. Highly recommended, staff are helpful and breakfasts terrific - served on day beds/sofas in funky foyer. Click onto website to see all the rooms. Even if you don't choose to stay, you must try the cocktails in the ground floor bar/restaurant which is open to all.

Avenue Hotel

Posted by tom7p 28 November 2006

We stayed at Avenue Hotel (Aboulevard 29), which was absolutely lovely.

It was a fair walk from the centre, but nothing too far. Nice, functional bedrooms. Lovely, comfy bar/lounge (nice food, but a choice of only two main meals). Brilliant breakfasts, lovely decor and very good staff.

You have to shop around a lot of websites to find a good hotel for a good price, it is one thing which is generally a lot more expensive than the UK.

Sleep-in-Heaven

Posted by ClintZepho 28 November 2006

The layout is great, a large communal area including sofas, a pool table, free Internet, an outside terrace, and beer on tap at reception.

The hostel’s buzz line is “It’s more fun”, with a maximum age for guests of 3; but actually Sleep-in-Heaven is a pretty tight ship, and the over-efficiency of the staff can sterilise the atmosphere a little.

Amager youth hostel

A child friendly hostel - 10 minutes walk from Bella Center metro stop. My son and I stayed for four days last summer. There are places to play outside and a really good breakfast for 15 Krona.

It costs 95 Krona for IYHA/YHA members and 125 Krona for non members.

Bella Center metro - 15 minutes from the centre of Copenhagen.

B&B Bonvie

Posted by spacious 23 November 2006

A very central B&B with great value for money, on the main walking street of Copenhagen (but surprisingly quiet rooms).

Offers a bunk bed room and two double rooms (one ensuite), both of which are lovingly tended by the warm and welcoming (but slightly eccentric) Brigitte.

Highly recommended, the perfect combination of central location, comfort and value for money. Breakfast offered at 50kr per person per day.

Sankt Petri Design Hotel

Posted by ColvilleAndersen 8 November 2005

Ironic isn't it? The design hotel phenomenon was late in coming to this Mother of All Design Nations. But Hotel Sankt Petri has got the whole concept wrapped up. Housed in an old department store, the hotel offers an über modern hotel experience. In short, it's the urban resort of choice for the demanding, travelling urbanite. There's a bar, brasserie and a cafe.

Prices start at 2,100 kroner.
Located in the heart of town.

Danhostel Copenhagen

Danhostel Copenhagen have opened a designer youth hostel in one of the city’s few tall buildings. Every room has a stunning view and the shared rooms aimed at backpackers start at about 10 pounds. Budget rooms with more privacy are available, too.

Place to stay

Superb B&B, right in the city centre - half the price of a cheap hotel and immeasurably better value. Beautifully decorated flat, ample breakfast. You do have to share a bathroom, and it is on the 3rd floor - no lift.

Radisson SAS Royal

Posted by ColvilleAndersen 19 October 2005

There are posh hotels in Copenhagen and then there is the Mother of All Design Hotels. Radisson SAS Royal was designed by Denmark’s most famous design icon, Arne Jacobsen - from the form of the cutlery to the entire form of the building. Ask for a room restored to its original state as Jacobsen had intended. Fantastic views and host to scores of statesmen and women as well as rock stars.
