The signature Palm D’Or of the film festival is a reference to the legend of the monk St Honoratus, as according to traditional folklore the monk was praying on the adjoining snake-infested island of Lerins, when God heard his<br>prayer and instructed him to climb a palm tree while he flooded the land to rid the island of snakes. <br><br>Ever since then, the palm tree has been an emblem for the city.]]></description>
