La Gambetta

Posted by ritchie 11 January 2013

Small restaurant with a menu that changes weekly - rare for Honfleur - friendly service and very good food at reasonable prices - 24 euros fixed price three course menu - à la carte around 35 euros. Is also a wine bar and so has some really good wines to choose from.

It would be a crime against gastronomy to visit Normandy without sampling the local delicacies: the famous cider and galletes (savory crepes). Nestled between the scenic 'Vieux Bassin' harbour and wooden Sainte Catherine cathedral, La Cidrerie bar and creperie offers the perfect environment to try both. The service is friendly, the prices affordable and the crepes are fantastic. This is the perfect place for a light lunch or a sight-seeing break. If you have a sweet tooth the 'crepe caramel au beurre salé', salty caramel, is surprisingly tasty and is also considered a regional delicacy.

Le Pont de Normandie

Posted by lizcleere 3 July 2012

At 2800 metres, the Pont de Normandie was the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world when it was completed in 1995. Then the Japanese built a longer one in 1999. But that doesn't diminish the impact of this spectacular example of the French ability to meld engineering design with art. For one of the best views in Normandy, take the ferry to Le Havre, and don't forget your bicycle; the bridge, which is seldom busy, has its own cycle lane. The steep hump in the middle will keep you on your toes, but the panorama from the top is worth it. At the end of the 25km journey, you'll be able to sup calvados or cidre beside Honfleur’s pretty harbour.
To fully enjoy the scenery, travel during daylight, and remember to go off season to avoid the hordes. If you go by car, it's still great.

Across the Seine, between Le Havre and Honfleur, on the A29 coastal road.

Le Breard

Posted by pottig 15 July 2007

This place is tucked away just up from the cathedral.

One of the best restaurants that we've ever been to.

The two fixed price menus are unbelievable value for money. The food is delicate, perfectly prepared and exquisitely presented. Service was not fussy.

Would definitely return.
