Recent tips about La Rochelle

Our large family stayed in two of the houses at Les Hiboux, near Chef Boutonne (L'Hibou and Le Noisetier) as the houses could be connected. The facilities available meant that we could spend the two weeks relaxing, rather than driving to other places to entertain the children.

The swimming pool was large enough for everyone to enjoy, with lots of loungers for sunbathing.

The beautiful gardens featured a little stream, fish pond (safely fenced off), two boules strips, trampoline, football pitch, climbing frame, treehouse and space for the children to run around.

There is table tennis in one barn and a games rooom with darts, pool, table football and a range of bats, rackets, croquet, etc. that could be taken outside.

The bike shed held lots of bicycles ranging in size that could be used.

I would highly recommend this venue for a family holiday. The location is beautiful and there is so much here to keep the children entertained. We will definitely be going back.

La Rochelle and Ile de Re

Posted by ThaiDi 23 December 2007

La Rochelle is a beautiful port town - I recommend a lunch in one of the portside fish restaurants (Place de La Chaine) followed by an icecream from Ernest's, where you'll be faced with a tough choice with seemingly endless flavours. After a visit to the picturesque old port, walk down to the Port des Minimes, one of the biggest leisure ports on the Atlantic coast where you'll be faced with a sea of masts. The aqaurium is also worth a visit, as is shopping under the arcades, and if you have time take a trip to the neighbouring Ile de Re for pleasant beaches. Out of season is the best time to visit these places as in the summer they are both rammed with holiday-makers.

La Rochelle and Ile de Re airport can be reached on Ryanair and Easyjet flights. La Rochelle port is the town centre.

Eurocamp, La Rochelle

Posted by enaminniemoo 11 February 2007

Eurocamp is a fun campsite where they have loads of different things to do. When I go there we always take our bikes and go with some friends so we cycle all round the site and get to know our way around.

You can also hire bikes which makes it easier.

There is a swimming pool with slides and a water fountain! There is a lake there and you can hire a canoe (especailly fun for water fights).

There is also lots of fun stuff to do outside of the site so you can go to some of the lovely beaches around.

It is a family place so everyone enjoys it.
