    The Hotel Hermitage Gantois

Posted by Barbara Wall 28 September 2007

Stay at the Hotel Hermitage Gantois. It is a superb and tranquil hotel, that dates back to the 15th Century, when it functioned as a hospice and convent.

The chapel, courtyards and other historical features, including an original ward remain, although now used as meeting rooms, with 21st century facilities.

The hotel can be visited every Tuesday afternoon, when a well infomed local guide conducts a fascinating 2 hour tour of the interior.

    L'Hermitage Gantois

    Posted by Dudley Baker-Beall 28 September 2007

Stay at L'Hermitage Gantois for that special weekend.

Four star luxury with food to match, but you can sleep in a nun's cell with a chapel across the corridor and a gruesome medical museum on the ground floor.

Walkable from the station and totally unlike any other four star hotel you can reach by Eurostar.

    Hotel Brueghel

Posted by Judith Collier 29 August 2007

Ignore the two-star label and stay at Hotel Brueghel, a lovely individual guesthouse in Lille. It's very affordable, and handy for Eurostar - just drag your bags 250 metres down the road.

If you choose a twin room you'll tend to get more space - you can always push the beds together if you're a couple. Tasteful furniture, seagrass carpeting, white walls, great original lift.

Don’t bother with breakfast, though - go to Paul in the main square and get the works: pain au chocolat, fresh orange, bread, confiture, coffee/tea/chocolate - for a handful of euros. It's a beautiful start to the day.

    Suitehotel

Posted by Paul Smith 29 August 2007

Right across the road from the station is the Suitehotel. We spent eight days there over Christmas 2006 for the price of four. A large suite with full facilities worked out at about £35 per night - excellent value.

    Couvent Des Minimes

Posted by Peter Smith 29 August 2007

Couvent Des Minimes is a great place to stay. In the heart of a historically-listed building only five minutes away from the city centre, the hotel offers luxurious and peaceful accommodation. This is an old convent that has been converted. Excellent food and great bars.
