After the obligatory visit to Disneyland Paris, the kids, four and six years old, were even more excited to visit Sleeping Beauty's real castle. This beautiful castle inspired the story of Sleeping Beauty, and you can imagine how the dark forest behind it might suddenly engulf it. There are a series of rooms displaying various scenes from the story, using mannequins dressed in beautiful historical costumes. A gruesome collection of arms also adds to the experience.

Have just returned from a two-week family holiday in France having exchanged my home with family in the Loire Valley. Would recommend this type of "home stay" for complete experience of different country and culture.
There are some huge, very well equipped, teeming and expensive campsites in the Loire Valley. There are also many small and cheap campsites run by the municipality - some in the most delightful places (one at Nazelles Negron near Amboise runs wine tastings and has a pizza van some evenings). We paid around 7-8 euros a night for two of us and a tent, and enjoyed a shady riverbank. There's also one we didn't stay on right next to the chateau at Chenonceau.
A beauiful, family run chateau close to the famous gardens and chateau of Chaumont sur Loire.
Chateau des Tertes offers traditionally decorated rooms in the main building or modern themes in the annex for under 100 euros.
Friendly personal service, nested in the countryside with views of the Loire Valley from the terrace.
