Marseille

Marseille has many brasseries overlooking the port where you can read, have a cold drink and watch the yachts, says Angharad Shanahan

Marseille isn't too touristy but many people there do speak good English. The town has many brasseries overlooking the port, and you can read a book, have a cold drink and watch the local boats and yachts come in and out of port - all in the warm sunshine!

Notre-Dame de la Guarde is the Church of Our Lady and is situated on top of the highest Hill in Marseille, where a golden statue of Mary and Baby Jesus keep watch over Marseille. You can go up there by bus, or you can take a very nice tourist-y train up there with commentary about the history of Marseille in French, English and Spanish which will cost you around 6 euros.

It really is worth going to see the Hidden Beauty of France.
