France
A haven for lovers of real beer, A traditional, basic boozer, Mori's is a real treat right in the heart of the city. There's plenty of choice from Scotland to Belgium to America on offer and - apart from nighclubs thronged with the fashionably sad - it's open after 11pm. You can also laugh at the more conceited French as they mince past.

The new owners of bar Antoine in Rue de la Prefecture have certainly changed the place; it’s cleaner, more sophisticated and with a less varied menu, but: it is still a very French atmosphere with lovely food and good service.
Try the Parma ham freshly sliced to order in front of you. The duck is good too and the truffle risotto to die for. It’s still one of the busiest restaurants in Old Nice, a place where every other doorway leads to a restaurant, so book a table and enjoy.
Rue de la Prefecture
This very friendly gay/lesbian bar has a wide selection of wines and other drinks. Generous portions of freshly-prepared snacks are also available.
Also worth a visit for the super murals on the wall, and it offers a showcase for local artists working in various media.
Clientele is mainly, but not exclusively, lesbian and gay.

A great late-night drinking den, with good quality DJs and pool tables for those still coordinated enough to play in the small hours.
Rue de la Terrasse (between Cours Saleya and the Promenade des Anglais).
Spacious Irish pub bar. Guinness and Murphys excellent. Live music - big screens for sporting events. Lively atmosphere. Good spot in the heart of old Nice.
Rue Saint Francoise de Paule, Vieux Nice, Near Cours Saleya.
This little bar/resto is located two-thirds up the road to the right of the Palais de Justice in Vieux Nice.
It is unmissable, being adorned in red and black and by a picture of its mascot gobi fish.
This is a bar that still retains an old Nicois feel and is frequented by local families whose kids and pets run in and out freely.
Everyone is very friendly and will chat to you in Nicoise or French about Olympique Nice or the tram system - whether you like it or not.
Seating is at a premium but if you do wait, glasses of rosé are freely forthcoming. Offers a range of Nicoise classics including a great version of the eponymous salad.
The ultimate antidote to the über-rich Azuriens and general Vieux Nice gentrifiction.
Stand facing the Palais de Justice in Vieux Nice. Take the road to the right side of the building. Bar Antoine is two thirds of the way up on the left.
St Paul de Vence is a medieval hilltop town, little changed, which is a haven for real art and local crafts.
It has a great feel and there is a brilliant old-fashioned bar at the entrance to the town surrounded by a boules rink.
St Paul de Vence is about 10km (35 mins) away from Nice - you can hire a motorbike and scoot your way west towards Antibe and Cannes - although you turn north before you get there at a place called Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Motorbike hire from Nicea Location Rent just near the railway station (Gare Nice Ville) in Rue de Belgique.
This is a great live music venue located in the old town and serves a very large main courses for about £6.
The curry is exceptionally tasty mixed with salad, chutney and a dollop of ice cream. Half-price beer (usually around £4 a pint) is on offer most evenings until about 9pm.
15, rue de la Préfecture
This is a fantastic north African teahouse right in the middle of the old town. Not particularly French or Nicois, it's a great location to escape the madness of the promenade on a Sunday or old dears carrying their minuscule dogs (most days).
You sit on cushions in one of the dimly-lit rooms and choose from a huge selection of teas and juices.
Love this place...
