    The new tramway

Posted by royalblue 10 January 2008

The new tram has finally arrived in Nice. It runs eight km from Las Planas to Pont Michel, stopping in between at Gare Thiers, Jean Medicin, Place Massena and up to Place Garibaldi.

The cost per journey is a standard fare of 1.30 euros. You can also get a day pass for four euros entitling you to unlimited travel for the day. You can buy tickets at any of the self-service stations where you catch the tram.

The journey from Place Massena to Pont Michel takes approx 16 minutes and there is a tram every four minutes during peak times and every eight minutes off-peak. Trams run from 4 am until 2.30 am the next morning.

    Parc Phoenix

    Posted by argent99 20 November 2007

Botanical park near the airport. For only two euro, you can stroll around its various environments and admire all the amazing plants. A tropical hothouse includes an aquarium and iguanas. Worth a visit anytime for a budget urban nature fix and terrific for passing a couple of relaxing hours prior to check-in.

Cagnes and St Laurent du Var

Posted by royalblue 3 November 2006

The guidebooks I read before setting off to Nice failed to mention Cagnes. I wanted to go to Renoir's museum so that's why I went. I was very taken with the place. I imagine it's like Brighton was in the 1960s but with a lot more class and a lot more sun. Pay this place a visit. There are restaurants a plenty and they are much cheaper than in Nice yet to the same standard. There are so many children here having fun in the sun too. A very sweet family holiday place which I intend to recommend to my niece's ma and pa.

    Hotel Le Grimaldi

Posted by travelmessenger 12 April 2006

A real gem of a hotel with diamond staff too. Beautifully finished rooms offer an inviting and intimate experience. It's incredible value: a boutique hotel yet budget price.

    Hotel Notre Dame

Posted by mecf 9 April 2006

Small, reasonably priced and clean 1-star hotel (but deserves 2) in a very central location between the seaside and the railway station - and great value for money.

Recommended by lots of major guide books.

Kevin, the friendly British owner, has a blog with tips on visiting the Riviera on his website, which makes for an interesting read.

Five minutes' walk from the train station and 10 from the seaside; just off the main shopping street (Avenue Jean Médecin).

    Ligne D'Azur bus passes

Posted by tanguero 7 April 2006

The area covered by the local bus services run by Ligne D'Azur has been extended. Collect a free route map from the airport or elsewhere.

The seven-day passes are great value and allow journeys to such places as Vence, Eze and some distance inland.

An exceptionally beautiful small museum hovering above a lake in the Parc Floral Phoenix (bus 23 westbound stops almost directly outside).

There are sections covering Japan, China, India and Cambodia.

    Exceptionally restful, light and airy.
