France

Close-up of a Martini
It's been nearly twenty years since Tom Cruise flipped bottles around a Manhattan bar with face-slapping smugness in Cocktail. And his character was too busy knocking up waitresses and shouting at craggy Australians to teach us anything useful about making a perfectly-mixed tipple - leaving us on the eternal hunt for the best cocktail bars in the world. Know a great one? Send us a tip on where to find an amazing appletini or spectacular seabreeze...

    Why Bar

Posted by ParisForest 8 September 2009

I have to say I think the Why Bar deserves a spot on any 'best cocktail bars' list. The owner makes some top notch cocktails, including creative and deconstructed cocktails at reasonable prices. It's a real find as far as cocktail bars go in Paris.

    Café Marly

Amazing place in the Richelieu wing of the Louvre. There's a nice terrace with a view of the Louvre pyramid. Nice cocktails and club sandwich but you go there for the location not really for the food.

The George restaurant at the top of the Pompidou centre is perfect for a cocktail as the sun is setting or a gourmet, trendy dinner if the wallet allows. It isn't cheap.

    Le Crocodile cocktail bar

Posted by WilliamBurghes 12 September 2007

The best cocktail bar in the city is between the Pantheon and the Luxembourg Gardens.

Cosy, intimate and friendly this place has it all. The back street location and unassuming frontage makes it a true local hangout – strictly for those in the know.

It opens and shuts late so is perfect for long nights when you don’t want to face a noisy dancefloor.

And with more than three hundred cocktails on the list you’re sure not to get bored.

    Cafe Mabillon

Posted by Seymour 30 October 2005

It is a cafe where they do brilliant cocktails or pints of beer for 4.50 euros from 7pm til 9pm. The waiters are charming and friendly and with each drink you order they bring a dish of delicious olives and another of peanuts. Whisky Dewalis were especially good, with a whole fruit salad balanced on top!

We were particularly grateful after the appallingly rude behaviour of the staff at Brasserie Lipp, down the road, our original intended destination.
