La Folie

Posted by Traveler22 29 February 2012

Charming B&B run by knowledgeable, friendly and accomodating hosts. Excellent food - including a wonderful vegetarian menu for my wife, very comfortable and clean rooms and an idyllic spot to rest while touring the area. Great value for money - far less expensive than you'd think - with no unexpected extras on the bill. A very refreshing change from soulless hotel chains!

Domaine Lafage (Vineyard)

Posted by JimCollins 27 May 2009

While staying in Collioure (nr Perpignan) and discovering my partner didn't like the local wine made from Grenache grapes while holidaying in Grenache grape country we decided to visit the Lafage Vineyard. We had tasted one of their gorgeous wines in our local in north London and we decided to try and find the vineyard which was relatively close to Perpignan to stock up for the remainder of our holiday.

Not having a car and forgetting the map we endured a couple of long and dusty bus journeys lasting several hours across country with connecting stops in the middle of nowhere to finally to get to the general area where the vineyard is located. But to get to the actual location from the bus stop it was another two miles - along a motorway.

We arrived dusty, parched and grumpy at lunchtime while it was closed. We were not happy! After lunch and on opening we received a warm and generous welcome along with an animated (and equally generous) degustation of some of the most truly delicious French wine from the Lafage vineyard. We bought two cases and got the bus back.

Next time, we’ll plan ahead but if we had a car it would have taken twenty minutes from Perpignan, which is much easier than the route we took and you can buy more of their delicious wines that way.

Wine tour

Posted by byrne853 12 March 2008

This French tour company run fun and informative wine tours. I stumbled upon them when I stayed in Perpignan last week. They collected us from our hotel and brought us to four vineyards, all very different and interesting. We partook in a "how wine is made tour" and tasted some gorgeous wine. Lunch was in a chateau and matched with some fine wine.

The day was great fun and the scenery was amazing. We were very surprised by the quality of the Roussillon wines.

The company is run by two Irish sisters and they know the area really well, living there for the past 10 years. Highly recommend for a good value day out.

Brasserie de la Gare

Posted by suliz 24 July 2007

Right opposite the station. You can leave luggage there as long as you have a drink or a meal.

Today I had the plat du jour: two lamb chops, ratatouille, potatoes and salad, all wonderfully fresh and €10.

Delicious French cooking at its best.
