Germany
Saint Georges English Bookshop is located in Prenzlauer Berg and specialises in good-quality second-hand English books at a reasonable price. They also have a good selection of new books and offer to order in books. Staff are very pleasant and go out of their way to accommodate unusual requests. The shop's also furnished with comfy Chesterfield sofas, which makes browsing even more enjoyable. Once a week they have a movie night, for which you need to be registered on a mailing list.

Much edgier and not as glossy as Goodbye Lenin, this is the film to see before coming to Berlin. The production company's website (www.x-filme.de) is also a good place to see the latest in German independent cinema.

The CineStar cinema, at the Sony Centre, shows films in their native language, so if your German isn't too hot, you can catch the latest blockbuster. They also show German and European films. A modern and clean cinema, one rather endearing feature is that they still have ice- cream salespeople who come into the auditorium after the ads and trailers. No intermission, though!

The film that made Germany cool again. You’ve probably already seen it. But get it out on DVD and see it again.
