    Baxpax Mitte Hostel

Posted by steffihartung 6 July 2011

Awesome hostel located in central Berlin. Recently renovated and the rooms are decorated very cool and artsy. The hostel is very unique in that each room has a different theme which sets it apart from many other hostels.
The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and ready to help you navigate your way through Berlin's many museums, parks, nightlife, etc. There's also an internet cafe inside so no need to worry about internet! The atmosphere of the hostel is very relaxed and the bar is a great place to hang out and meet other people staying in the hostel. It is also very centrally located and all of Berlin's major sights are very easily accessible from the hostel.

You can also rent bikes from the hostel for a very reasonable price. I really enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to any fellow traveler coming to Berlin! Also, no curfew! :)

    Michelberger Hotel

Posted by amnadillo 19 August 2010

This is a great, good value hotel in the old 'East' side of Berlin. It is a short walk from the upcoming Friedrichshain neighbourhood, cafe society Kreuzberg and a U-Bahn away from the major sites in Mitte.

The staff are on hand to give practical advice at all hours and are friendly. The 'cosy' rooms are just that and may not suit some people - the best rooms are the larger doubles overlooking the courtyard. The best bit is surely the decor and comfort of the reception area which has lounge sofas, books and coffees to help overcome the inevitable hangovers.

    Aurora Hostel Prenzlauer Berg

    Posted by matts25 8 November 2008

Cheap hotel in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg. Friendly, English-speaking staff, safe, cheap and clean, in the heart of one of the liveliest and trendiest districts of the city. Pleasant decor and lighting concept and warm rooms during the winter.

Take the U Bahn to Eberswalder Strasse station. Exit and cross Schonhauser Allee onto the Pappelallee. It's a five minute walk, the hostel is on the right hand side.

    Singer 109

Posted by Sissi 27 March 2008

Brand new hostel in central Berlin. Ideally located, five minutes' walk to Alexander Platz and 10 minutes to Mitte. The rooms in are spacious and nicely furnished, so they are just perfect for temporary living as well.

The building is a former factory and represents for me a typical Berlin atmosphere. The mixture of old and new in a city where ideas have space to grow. The centre of the building is the enormous atrium, where, as well as in the lounge, you will meet other backpackers and can make new friends. The owners made a private dream come true with this hostel and you'll have a warm welcome in this place.

Ostel Hostel - The DDR Hostel

    Posted by rtg1 1 March 2008

This DDR styled hostel is fantastic - it's kitsch, basic accommodation. It's affordable on a budget, clean, has friendly English-speaking staff and it doesn't feel like a hostel at all! Double and single rooms come with private bathroom with shower or there's the 'Stasi' apartment for up to five sharing. It's on the fringes of the Friedrichshain area with a 10-15 min walk to Boxhanger Platz/Simon-Dache Strasse area but there's a bus-stop outside the building where a 240 will take you straight there in a few minutes. Ostbahnhof Station is across the road where the Underground will take you direct to Warschauer Strasse Station (or anywhere else for that matter).

Avoid the breakfast (three euros); we were directed to a darts pub (?) and were served up a very strange mix of spam, boiled eggs and UHT milk all in the midst of an OAP coach party briefing. Bizarre.

If you have a taste for currywurst at three in the morning there's a take-away across the road.

    Citystay Mitte

Posted by Sissi 23 January 2008

Discovering a city? I think by foot is the only way to get a proper idea of a town. That’s why I always try to find a central accommodation.

I chose the Citystay Mitte. A good choice, not only because of the location at Hackescher Markt, an area which seems to be pure Berlin. I was allowed to find hidden places and spaces.

    Die Fabrik Hostel Berlin

Posted by chimpanzeemeunkey 11 October 2007

Recommended! Die Fabrik Hostel, it is right in the heart of the Kreuzberg district (and, to be honest, where real Berliner life continues away from the hellish maw of global tourism!)

Those looking for a hotel-style accommodation with hostel prices, this is the one. Been going there since 1998 and makes part of why Berlin is so special to me! Has nice big rooms and cosy art deco style. So good, even real Germans stay there. Also has very nice and comfortable cafe adjoining it.

At Schlesische Str. 18, Kreuzberg. Nearest U-Bahn Schlesiche Tor

    Baxpax Kreuzberg Hostel

Posted by silentglow 13 July 2007

Part of the excellent Baxpax chain and recently opened, this modern, funky hostel is slightly out of the centre but located in the über-cool Kreuzberg district.

Some of the rooms have country themed decor (think Swiss cheese, mountains, flags etc) and kitchen and bathrooms are impeccably clean.

The small bar is laid back and chilled out; a good place to meet fellow travellers for a random chat.

Staff are welcoming and incredibly helpful, and you can even hire bikes for only 12 euros a day.

    Helmholtzplatz

Posted by addywaddy 26 September 2005

A square in Prenzlauer Berg district just north of the perhaps better known Kollwitzplatz. The square is dotted with bars and cafes which continue off along Raumer-, Lychener-, and Dunckerstraße (where I live as it happens). It's a great summer hang out. Plus there's a youth hostel on the North side of the square.

Nearest stations are Schoenhauser Allee and Prenzlauer Alle (both S-Bahn), and Eberswalder Straße (U-Bahn)

You can get some amazing deals on cheap accommodation in Berlin. The Circus is a clean, bright, arty hostel – in fact there are two of them – just north of Hackescher Markt, right in the centre of Berlin. They have an Arabian room, an underwater room, as well internet and bar. Rooms €15-€32.
