What a place to watch a game of football! It was a dull game but the venue was stunning. We sat right at the back – the back row of the stand opposite the Ostkurve which is akin to the Kop.
You can get a reduction on tickets with a Berlin Welcome card so the price of tickets is very reasonable.
If you can’t see a game, visit the stadium. Incredible.

It's an Irish pub showing sport. Not very exciting but friendly and convenient. A mix of ex-pats and locals.

Most lakes in Berlin are clean enough to swim in. If you don’t have your kit with you just strip off and swim around naked: it’s what the locals do, after all. A nice lake to swim in is Schlachtensee. It has a good cafe at the north end, and a beer garden. Or, in winter, skate on them – when it’s cold enough the lakes become a Breughelesque scene full of sledgers, families and dogs. Classic Berlin.
