This website was started by two guys with a few photos to record the fact that Frankfurt city centre before WW2 was largely medieval. Soon they were inundated with other people’s photos and have since been able to construct virtual records of large parts of the city as it was. I recommend viewing these photos before visiting so that you can visualise the way it was as you walk round the streets – particularly those surrounding the cathedral. The site is also a wealth of information about the old city.
