    Lake Walchensee

Posted by geekygirl 13 July 2007

Lake Walchensee is about 2 hours drive south of Munich airport. The lake nestles in the foothills of the Alps (the Karwendel range). The area is fantastic for hiking, climbing, watersports and sailing, cycling and running.

Take the Herzogstandbahn up the mountain for stunning views of the Austrian alps and the Bavarian countryside. This is the friendliest part of Germany with the most stunning scenery and beautiful architecture (traditionally painted houses). The cows really do have cow bells and the farmers really do wear Lederhosen!
