Lübeck is a beautiful Hanseatic city encircled by a river and a canal. There are lots of open green spaces. The old town is a UNESCO heritage site. The most famous landmark is the 15th century Holsten Gate. You can combine city attractions with the seaside, as the Baltic resort of Travemunde lies just north of Lübeck

It is easy to reach as Ryanair use it as their airport for Hamburg. It would be good for families as there is a puppet museum and a large collection of toys at St Anne's museum and the seaside.
