After hours of searching for affordable accommodation in Athens we found this delight.

Inside it is clean and friendly, has free Wi-Fi and a lovely garden courtyard where they do a good cheap breakfast in the morning and a good cheap beer in the evening.

When you step outside you're right in the heart of the Plaka and surrounded by tavernas and cafes. A five-minute walk along the cobbled streets takes you to the Acropolis, the new museum and Syntagma Square. A four-person room with facilities is €100 per night.

    Athens Studios

Posted by Sissi 20 April 2009

These super-stylish self-catering apartments are only five minutes away from the Acropolis, and are spacious enough for families on a budget, groups of friends, or couples who want a bargain alternative to backpacker hostels.

The open-plan studios are styled with funky furniture and modern art on the walls, and fully equipped with a kitchen, free internet, a flatscreen TV, bathrooms, and air conditioning - a welcome respite from the intense summer heat and city smog.

The bedroom and sitting room both have their own balconies, or you can head up to the rooftop bar for a breathtaking view of the Acropolis as the sun sets. The perfect accompaniments are a well-priced cold bottle of beer and Sheesha Pipes in every flavour from Coca-Cola to Vanilla.

There's also a happy hour from 7-8pm every night with half-price cocktails-the Parthenon Passion is a must!

If you want budget accomodation but aren't quite ready to bunk down in a hostel dorm, the Athens Studios allow you to tackle this frenetic city at your own pace.

    Athens Backpackers

Posted by Sissi 31 July 2008

This Athens hostel has a great location just minutes from the Acropolis. Dorm rooms are cheap, airy and modern. It’s a great base for exploring the historic sights of the city on a budget but also for making the most of the lively nightlife. The rooftop bar has amazing views over the famous ruins and cheap drinks. There’s no curfew so stay out as late as you like!

    Hotel Semiramis

    Posted by WILLIAM1979 21 September 2005

This is a hotel of the future. Facing a tranquil green park in the Kifissia area of north Athens, the hotel is boutique style with fluid design, soft style that mingles rounded forms with bright, lively colours. It offers internet TVs complete with cordless keyboards that come as standard. For more local interaction, guests can check out the hotel's two-level restaurant and bar, where the modern Greek, European and international flavours of the menu are mirrored in the cosmopolitan blend that make up the Semiramis' clientele. It is a must for those who love design hotels! ₤155 per night.

    Plaka Hotel

Posted by HelenaSmith 1 August 2005

Although high-end budget, it’s worth shelling out that little bit extra for this boutique hotel in the heart of ancient Athens. Its upper back rooms and bar terrace have an unrivalled view of the Acropolis and its ramparts. Recently renovated, the hotel is a stone’s throw away from the bars, cafes and restaurants of Plaka and trendy Psirri. Double room: €95 (low season); €145 (high season). Single room: €85 (low season); €115 (high season).

    Fresh Hotel

Posted by traveltart 21 March 2006

Usually I look at design or boutique hotels, salivate wildly, and then can't afford them - especially as I'm often travelling alone. My room at the Fresh Hotel was only 100 euro - spacious, stylish, with a balcony and particularly comfortable bed. The whole place is beautiful and glamorous. My only regret was that the rooftop swimming pool was closed in February so I'll have to go back in the summer. It’s also a good, central location and easy for the metro from the airport.

    Grand Polis Hotel

Posted by ismith 12 November 2005

A nice newly renovated hotel centrally located and within walking distance of the Parthenon and the Acropolis, the Plaka, the Monastiraki, the Roman and Ancient Agoras and most of the other major sites in Athens. Close by are banks and the post office (all via 28 October). It also has a very good restaurant and for those who don't want the full service, the same kitchen provides food for their bistro, 'Food and Drink', where the choice of meals and the service by the young staff is excellent. Greek meals are a speciality. In season, the roof garden eating area is great too!

    Grande Bretagne

Posted by HelenaSmith 1 August 2005

A landmark in Modern Greece, the GB combines comfort with dash and a big dose of history – for the likes of Winston Churchill there was nowhere better in the Levant. It’s rooftop terrace (following a major £60m renovation of the hotel in the run-up to the 2004 Athens Olympics) has a great bar and restaurant with terrific view of the Parthenon and House of Parliament which it faces. Its ground-floor bar, a favourite watering hole of Greek politicians, is unabashedly camp. Rooms are as famous for their marble bathrooms as spacious balconies. Double room classic – €255 (high season); single classic €235 (low season).
